With over 130 years’ experience in designing some of the most iconic bikes in cycling history as well us one of the biggest cycle accessory distribution arms in the United Kingdom, we are one of the largest bicycle companies in the United Kingdom.

We design them, we play with them, we ride them, we race them and we commute on them.

We look at bicycles as an extension of ourselves, our history but most of all we consider the people who will be riding them.

The Raleigh bicycle of today is designed by local people for local people.

Originally designed to mimic the kind of American motorbikes ridden by Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper in the film Easy Rider, the Chopper stood out with its "stick shift" three speed gearing and cow horn handle bars.

Assistant buyer Hannah Coupland said: "The Raleigh Chopper is not only a design classic, but also a childhood icon and we've seen lots of demand from parents wanting to recreate the magic of their favourite bike for their children. Our bicycles are a product of the passion that started in the1800s.Bicycles mean more than just saving money, or being an accessory to the latest trend, or a status symbol to grab attention. This chart has been developed as an additional reference guide (more so then simply dating off Sturmey-Archer hubs) for the positive identification of Raleigh frames and entire bicycles. Given the number of bicycles produced at Raleigh during any given year versus the relatively small sample size of bikes available to me (200 individual examples at last count), I cannot guarentee absolute accuracy. As proper factory documentation is very limited, the following charts are a constant work in progress; they have been compiled by examining numerous Raleigh frames from each period, component date codes, decal schemes, color availabilities per year; and - occasionally - official papers. Nevertheless, please put your mind at ease - these serial charts have been checked, re-checked, and are as accurate as I can provide at their time of publication.Note that the serial number information below is fragmentary and incomplete, and many bikes have proven to be much newer than the serial numbers would suggest.
